For October 29, 2016
Bridgeport, Conn. (October 23, 2016) – Truth in Accounting (TIA), a think tank that has analyzed government financial reporting since 2002, will release a new analysis of Bridgeport’s financial health at a public forum on Saturday, October 29 hosted by Citizens Working for a Better Bridgeport (CW4BB) Action Network.
The TIA report – titled “The Financial State of Bridgeport” – will compare Bridgeport’s assets with its liabilities and other obligations, and calculate the burden this places on Bridgeport taxpayers. It will also assess the extent to which current generally accepted accounting practices serve to understate the real condition of the city’s finances. The report is embargoed for release at 10:30 a.m. on October 29. Copies will be available at “A Citizens Forum on Bridgeport’s Financial Challenges and Opportunities” which is open to all citizens and elected officials who wish to engage in a constructive conversation about Bridgeport’s financial future, competitive posture and quality of life.
Former U.S. Comptroller General David M. Walker, a Bridgeport resident, and State Senator Marilyn Moore, a Bridgeport resident and Democrat representing Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull, will speak about the implications of the new TIA findings and possible solutions. Mayor Joseph P. Ganim and all of Bridgeport’s current elected representatives are invited to participate. Comments from the public and questions from the media will be welcome.
The Forum will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at Bridgeport Public Library, 925 Broad Street, in the Main Programming Room on the first floor.
